Name: Marcus and Cajun.
Status: Despite the complete protection of alligators under the 1962 Florida law, extensive alligator poaching continued into 1970. In recent alligator population surveys, results show a progressive increace from 1974 to present.
Distribution: The American Alligator resides in the wild in the southwestern United States. Large populations are found in Florida.
Size: Growth rates vary with temperatures and food availability. It takes an alligator 8 to 10 years in captivity to reach full maturity. An average adult alligator can range from 8 tp 10 feet in length and can weigh over 500 pounds.
Food: When full grown, Marcus can eat between five and eight whole chickens every four to five days. His diet consists of chicken and fish.
